Hot Vinyasa: Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of Yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes a continuous flow of movement using sun salutations, dynamic breathing and longer holds in poses. The heat encourages greater flexibility and detoxification as each part of the body is explored and worked, in a deep and mindful way as we build strength and tone the body. Vinyasa is a fun and creative practice requiring focus and dedication. This class moves at a quick pace, therefore, some Yoga experience is helpful prior to starting this class and a moderate level of fitness is recommended. This type of hot room Yoga is physically challenging and athletic. If you have any specific health issues or injuries, you should consult your physician and the teacher before engaging in these classes.

Adaptive Yoga for Multiple Sclerosis: No mater what your range of motion or your present abilities the Yoga postures offered can be approached with the use of props to gently achieve a pose. Because each persons experience with MS is different, some students may be able to participate in a regular on the floor mat class and others may need individual instruction with adapting traditional Yoga poses using props and modification. You will learn a variety of Yoga poses that will aid in relieving stress, combat fatigue, reduce spasticity and increase range of motion. Please contact me to discuss your needs.

Adaptive Yoga for Cardiac and Cancer, Yoga of the Heart: A special 6 to 8 week program. The Yoga poses and breath exercises used are very gentle and induce deep relaxation, reducing stress and promoting healing. Each part of the body is, in turn, related to “mind set” or emotion. By gently moving the body, we can release deep held thoughts and emotions allowing the mind to move to a state of centeredness. We will also work with the breath, when in the pain we often hold or repress the breath, rhythmical breathing and awareness increases oxygen flow allowing us to attain deep complete relaxation (also called progressive relaxation). Yoga, breath and balance….gently increasing muscle strength and resiliency. Regain knowledge of your body, and find ease and acceptance of who we are at this time and place. Permission to attend this class from your medical provider/Physician must be received before beginning class. Contact me for forms and to discuss your needs.

For Those New to Yoga

It is essential to the mission of Healing Heart Yoga that new students feel welcome and comfortable. This is a time to explore our growing edges with compassion and intelligence, encouraging self awareness.

  1. Please arrive 15 minutes before class start time, kindly turn off cell phones and beepers.
  2. It is recommended that you not eat 1.5 – 2 hours before the beginning of class, a light snack is fine.
  3. If you are new to Yoga, mats are available free of charge. For continuing students, it is highly recommended that you have your own mat for hygiene reasons and so you can practice at home.
  4. Adjust the pose to fit your body, don’t force yourself into the pose. Your teacher will aid you with modifications and props. Be sure to ask for clarity if needed.
  5. If you have any injuries, health issues or concerns let your teacher know.
  6. Please be prepared to begin class at the scheduled time. If you arrive late, quietly join the group. Every effort is made to start and end classes on time.
  7. Please wear comfortable yet fitted clothes. Pants or shorts with an elastic waist are ideal; no big buttons or belts. Dress in layers if needed for comfort.
  8. Remember, the practice of Yoga is enjoyed much more when we listen to our bodies. Don’t push past your limits, maintain a good attitude, keep an open mind and breathe.
